Lisa Norton

Lisa Norton is an attorney whose practice concentrates on serving a wide variety of nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations, helping organizations and donors to pursue their missions through proper structuring and legal compliance. Lisa's practice includes formation of legal entities, advice on issues such as unrelated business income tax, lobbying, charitable solicitation, best practices in nonprofit governance and other matters relevant to the philanthropic sector. Lisa brings to bear over 20 years of experience working with large and small for-profit and not-for-profit organizations on a variety of federal, local and international legal and tax matters. She has a particular interest in international philanthropic activities and internet communications.

Lisa received her bachelor's degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Rochester , her law degree from Harvard Law School , and a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Washington 's Daniel J. Evans School of Public Affairs. Lisa is a member of the bar of the states of Washington and New York . She is a member of the American Bar Association's Tax Section Committee on Exempt Organizations and Business Law Section Committee on Nonprofit Corporations, the Washington Bar Association Tax Section, New York State Bar Association Tax Section, and the American Society for Association Executives (ASAE). She previously served as vice chair of the American Bar Association's Committee on Foreign Activities of U.S. Taxpayers, and served on an Internal Revenue Service Commissioner's Advisory Committee on transfer pricing. She has frequently spoken on a variety of tax law topics.

Lisa has served on governing boards and committees of numerous charitable organizations and professional associations. She is a recipient of Tax Executives Institute's President's Award for Distinguished Service, having served on its Executive Committee and chaired numerous committees and projects. Lisa currently serves as a director and officer of World Association for Children and Parents, an international adoption and child welfare organization. She is also an active partner in Social Venture Partners, currently serving as lead partner for an investee organization and as a member of the Early Learning Advocacy Committee. Lisa provides pro bono services to clients through Washington Attorneys Assisting Community Organizations (WAACO).
